They say numeral 8 brings happiness. Not without reason Chinese set an Olympic Games date on 08.08.08, more over at 8 o’clock. The hieroglyph 8 can be translated as «prosperity». However this “great numbers” didn’t bring us happiness. Washed by blood… these numerals shocked the entire world on the opening day of the Beijing Olympic Games. Georgia attacked South Ossetia without declaring a war.

Historically wars and conflicts always ceased during the Olympic Games. Georgia is the only country which violated this sacred law. When the whole world was in the run up to the main and grand event, the most terrifying thing happened. This was the beginning of another Genocide of Ossetian people.

The escalation of Georgian-Ossetian conflict took place on July — August. Artillery bombardment of South Ossetia occurred regularly. On August, 7 the president of Georgia Michael Saakashvili addressed people of South Ossetia on TV confessing in love to Ossetian people and Ossetian culture. He declared ceasefire, but he didn’t keep his word. Georgian troops opened the sustained fire on Tskhinval.

This was the beginning of the large-scale aggression against Ossetian people. The rocket artillery shelling and unceasing attacks on Tskhinval began on the eve of August, 8.

Georgian troops used «Grad» multiple-launch rocket system to shell Tskhinval. At 03.30 a.m. they began to attack the city using howitzers, large-calliber mortars. Georgian Government intended to implement the plan called «Clean Field», which involved the utter annihilation of ossetian nation.

Georgian troops succeeded in capturing several villages of the Republic of South Ossetia. In the morning they reached the outskirts of the capital. Thousands of houses and buildings had been destroyed. People spent 5 days in basements without any food and even water, they were disconnected.

They understood every second could be the last one. But Ossetian people are strong-willed people. We managed to go through this circle of Hell. The Republic of South Ossetia lost more than 1500 people in the 08.08.08 war. Almost all ossetian villages were captured and burnt by Georgian military forces. The locations of Russian peacekeepers were shot at intensively. On August, 8 12 Russian peacekeepers were killed, 150 were wounded. There is a great number of missing people.

The western information agencies interpretation of the August war was incorrect. It was based on introducing Russia and South Ossetia as aggressors.

“South Ossetian separatists begin attacking Georgian peacekeepers, ending a ceasefire. Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili sends troops into South Ossetia. Russia responds by moving its troops to the border, flying aircraft over Georgia, and beginning air strikes in South Ossetia”. This was published in one of the American daily newspapers on 08.08.08.

10 years have passed since that tragedy, but we are still experiencing its grave consequences. We hope that Georgia will acknowledge the Genocide of Ossetian people. The facts are clear and there is no question that the acts of Georgian Government (the crimes against humanity) resulted in systematic elimination of ossetian people.
